This project modified the existing exhaust system on Unit 6 at PGE’s Beaver plant for increased heat recovery and efficiency. Our scope included the exhaust gas piping removal, modification, and installation of the new piping system. Another subcontractor disassembled the unit to provide access for our work.
This work was performed on a tight timeline during a unit outage in the early spring of 2022. Detailed coordination was required between PGE’s plant operators, our team, and multiple subcontractors performing various scopes in the area during the unit outage. One challenging aspect is that design was progressing as the unit was dismantled due to the units at the Beaver plant being fairly uncommon. This exhaust efficiency concept had been implemented at other facilities but not on these specific gas turbine models.
